God's Grace

What is God's grace?

The grace of God that bringeth salvation through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, hath appeared to all humanity. God's grace is His unmerited favor. It is the gift of God because God loved us first. The grace that saves is the free, undeserved goodness and favor of God; not by the works of the law, but saves through faith in Christ Jesus.

1 John 4:19

19 We love God, because God first loved us.

Ephesians 2:8-10

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

How was God's love manifested toward us?

Salvation is a free gift from God reflecting his enduring love and mercy towards humanity. Jesus Christ shed his blood on the cross and paid the atonement for our sins so that we could be saved.

1 John 4:9-10

9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us first, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 2:2

2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

What does God's grace teach us?

Titus 2:11-15

11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

How does the grace of God change a sinner's soul?

By turning to God in repentance and faith for salvation, a sinner experiences a supernatural change of heart due to the work of God. Grace in the soul is a new life in the soul. The goodness of God in converting and saving sinners heretofore, encourages others to hope in his grace and mercy.

Our faith, our conversion, and our eternal salvation, are not of works, lest any person should boast. These things are not brought to pass by anything done by us, therefore all boasting is unnecessary. All is the free gift of God, and the effect of being quickened by his power.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Hebrews 4:16

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

How does the new creature glorify, praise, and honor God?

The new creature in Christ lives a life of holiness, being born of God: he lives, being delivered from the guilt of sin, by pardoning and justifying grace. It was his purpose, to which he prepared us, by blessing us with the knowledge of his will, and his Holy Spirit producing such a change in us, that we should glorify God by our good conversation, and perseverance in holiness.

SUMMARY

The importance of God's grace in your life and work, highlights that it is through God's grace that one can achieve and labor more abundantly than others.

1 Corinthians 15:10

"But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."

Live a life pleasing to God.
